MINISTRY POSITION DESCRIPTION
DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT
MISSIONARY CHURCH, INC.

Title of position: Director of Development

Purpose of position: The Director of Development will be responsible for developing monetary resources to support the vision and growth of the Missionary Church denomination.  Reporting to the President, the Director of Development serves as a key leadership team member and an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting the Missionary Church, Inc.

Reports to: President of the Missionary Church, Inc.

Relates closely with: MCI Directors; Regional Directors; District Superintendents; Local Churches;

Responsibilities:

  • Construct, articulate and implement Missionary Church Inc.’s development program.
  • Communicate the Denomination’s mission, needs, gift opportunities, success stories, and results with donors, prospective donors, Missionary Church districts, and congregations.
  • Establish and maintain ongoing professional relationships with gift prospects and benefactors.
  • Actively solicit gifts from any and all prospects/constituents of the denomination, thereby securing financial support for the denomination.
  • Identify, cultivate, and endeavor to be involved in the denominational ministries, individuals, corporations and foundations which are potential donors.
  • Teach and train local church leaders (pastors and key laymen) to help them grow the financial stewardship in their congregation
  • Provide access to cutting edge resources (either developed in house or brokered through third parties) that will help the local church expand its financial stewardship.
  • Enhance competence through study and participation in conferences and professionally related organizations.
  • Supervise the creation and maintenance of records relating to all donations and donors.
  • Provide reports and data as needed by the governing bodies and Directors of the denomination.
  • Is responsible for preparing and executing a comprehensive development plan each year with accompanying operating budgets and methods of evaluation for annual, capital and planned giving programs.
  • Is responsible for seeking and recommending to the president those to be appointed to fill all professional and staff support positions.
  • Is responsible for managing those appointed to assist him in fulfilling his responsibilities.
  • Hire, manage, develop and evaluate support staff for the Development area.
  • Supervise and coordinate the preparation of all grant proposals.
  • Perform other duties as coordinated with the President.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Be/Become a member of a Missionary Church
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Bachelor’s degree is required.  Certification as a fund raising executive is preferred.
  • A minimum of five years experience is required with demonstrated success in all aspects of institutional development including board development, strategic planning, annual fund implementation, and personal solicitation of major gifts.
  • Proven management and leadership capabilities.
  • High energy, positive, “can-do” attitude, flexibility, teamwork, and attention to detail; high degree of initiative.
  • Ability to influence and engage a wide rand of donors, including individuals, churches, corporation, and foundations
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain relationships with donors.
  • Thorough understanding of all components of a diversified funding base.
